DPP 4 appears to work just fine with any jpg file. I have cr2 files from several (not listed) cameras. DPP 4 will only edit raw files from my 6D.

Makes sense. JPEGs are JPEGs, regardless of what camera or computer they are produced by, it is a single format so if the software can process a JPEG it will process any JPEG. RAW files, despite all being called .CR2 are different from camera to camera.

I've seen the same thing. Old jpegs are fine, but from my humble collection of cameras, it will accept RAW files from the 1DX only.

Today the DPP 4.0 can access the digital lens correction data server, something it couldn't do yesterday. Maybe it wasn't running at Canon until now.

I'm wondering if this signals a planned reduction (and eventual stopping) of support/updates/new features for the 3x series.

Well, then, to get things straight:

For those using cameras prior to the ones listed, you need DPP 3 (or older). DPP4 will not work with the Raw files.

For those with newer cameras, you need DPP4. DPP 3 won't work with the Raw files from the newer cameras.

Of course, if you have both old and new bodies, you'd need both 3 and 4, so it's good that the new DPP 4 install leaves DPP 3 in place!

My 5DMkIII images work fine in DPP 3.14.15.0.

Perhaps, but since presumably Canon is not planning a similar reduction/stopping in production of consumer and prosumer cameras and when they appear those cameras will write model specific variations of CR2, something will have to replace DPP3 if it is terminated.

Sure, if it worked last week, there's no reason it wouldn't work this week. If during the installation of DPP 4 the installer was also removing code or otherwise modifying DPP 3, I think Canon would notify you that it was doing that. Or am I being naive?

Tony, the 1DX raw files do work in my current DPP3. Perhaps downloading V4 disables the DPP3 ability to handle them? I'll have a look later methinks. Not being a regular raw shooter means you don't take my findings as absolute fact as I have found DPP3 doesn't do a very good job with my raw development as it does with my mk4's.

The 1200D, 70D, 100D and 700D are all newer DSLR releases then the supported models, so apparently the criterion for DPP 4 is not only age but also "professionality".

That a bit of a kick from those of us who recently purchased a 7D, 70D, or other crop cameras. We don't count?

bannedPermanent ban

I just installed DPP 4.0, yesterday. I can still use DPP 3.14.15 to edit raw files from my 6D. Neither version sees the other one's edits.

I may be hugely mistaken, but won't the vast majority of people with the 'professional' models already be using Lightroom? Does DPP 4 do anything that Lightroom can't do? Or do anything better?

I have a hard tie imagining this upgrade makes a huge impact on the overall usefulness of DPP. Count yourself lucky you don't have access to this crappy program.
