Hi All,

I'm looking at getting a grip head and have my eye on two models: the Avenger D200B http://www.bhphotovideo.com …200B_Black_Grip_Head.html (external link) or the Kupo KG203111 http://www.bhphotovideo.com …2_1_2_Grip_Head_With.html (external link)

They are about the same price. From what I've read, the Avenger name seems to be highly regarded. Does either model have an advantage over the other?

I appreciate your thoughts and experience.

Round handle is more comfortable than a square handle and the size.

I have both Kupo and Avenger grip equipment. I think it would be very clear cut if Kupo used the same friction disc as the Avenger. The Kupo grip handle is much more comfortable than the Avenger, but the friction disc doesn't hold as well, and the springs in the head tend to get caught and cause the grip head to stick; so instead of the head popping open when you unscrew the handle the clamp plates bind in place (not all the time but enough to be annoying). Either way, I still love the Kupo kit for some of the innovations they offer over Avenger. For example, the quick lock legs on the C stands, or the fact that the handle on their superclamp is re-positionable, vs the fixed handle on the Manfrotto/Avenger unit.

If you want to save a few dollars more the Impact is the same as the KUPO

I love the switch blade base.

I have Avenger, Kupo, and Matthews. The holes in the Avenger grip head are smooth and they're serrated in the Kupo and Matthews. The serration makes a big difference in preventing the grip arm from rotating; it tends to slip a bit on the Avenger requiring a lot of tightening force to hold tight.

The Kupo has the biggest handle making it the easiest to tighten, but overall I prefer the Matthews. It seems to have the best holding power and requires the least amount of torque to tighten down, plus it's just a bit smaller and lighter than the Kupo.

I have Matthews also. It's amazing how well those things grip. I would say it is too grippy but you quickly get use to not tightening it down so much, unless you really need to.

I had to switch out my matthews grips because of stripped treads and I think the Kupo is lighter and better.

Just my .02 cents no need to start a thread war. ;)

If you want I can do side by side images of the heads, arms, and super clamps for you. I don't have any Avenger C stands or Kupo Boom arms however, as I prefer the quick release legs of the Kupo stands but I prefer the built in grip head of the Avenger boom arm.
