Cool shot! Nice exposure and skin tones.

Your reflector certainly added to this shot. See the subtle light addition to your collar, dark side of yuor face and ear? Thats from the reflector.

The reflector definitely contributed to the shot, you can see the telltale highlight on the earlobe. Good first try.

Which softbox/flash are you using?

Are you using radio triggers, or the 60D Flash Commander through the popup?

I am using a Neewer 24" x 36", a yongnuo yn500 flash and yongnuo yn622c and tx triggers.

With the Elinchrom ELC HD Pro 500 you can use the strobist mode. You can set a certain amount of flashes as well as the duration.
Here I set it at 5 flashs a sec, 2s total I minimized the ambient and opened the shutter for 2s.

Your arms' movement had to be perfectly timed within the constraints of the flash and shutter. How many takes before you got the keeper?

Not that many actually - it was the 3rd shot that was chosen, however I think it could have been better if there was less space between nr2 and nr 3

Some owls used for a pregnancy announcement. I ended up cloning out the pink one on the far left since they're having a boy.

One Einstein in a strip box was used.

Cool shot - how'd you get the blur? I'd have guessed ambient light but everything else looks nicely blacked out

Thank you! Yes, the blur is from the modeling light of the strobe pushed to max. In delay mode, the flash will pop only after a set delay, here it popped after 0.6s and the total exposure was 0.8s long.
