Hell no, my kids are anything but cooperative. I hate shooting them sometimes because they don't listen and all I do is yell at them. Ahh well. lol Luckily enough my sis and bro in law where there. She took the shot, while he held my softbox on a boomstick about 3 feet from them.


Here's another one of my princess. She loves posing for the camera and I always get good shots from her. Although I kinda wish I woulda centered the softbox now, so it didnt create that shadow side on her.

You make a good point. When using the strobe in tbis type of application its really a fill light. And fill lights are most useful when they are on, or close to, the camera axis. Especially important when you are doing kids amd beauty shots.

Ya, still challenging because with this setup I was using a 135, and if my softbox holder (aka bro in law) was behind me holding the light, that source would have been like 10 ft from my daughter thus making it less useful. Otherwise he would be in my framing. Not sure what the work around would be

Messing with new 2'x3' reflector panels, one overhead and one to the right. Single light was a white BD @ 1'. I like this dish for its smooth shadow transitions and the remarkable depth-of-light. I'm shooting off a tabletop with no sweep, and that b/g gradient is real: no post needed with this setup.

By the way, I had a friend in LA not too long age that needed a good shooter and I tried to get her to call you. But she ended up going with someone else. I think his name was Perry something.

I always think about trying off camera lighting for family sessions but trying to keep the kids engaged and happy always is hard enough. I just shot a family with 5 kids (5yearold,2 3yearolds and 2 1yearolds) and trying to fine tune a light with all that hurn my brain to even think about haha

Thanks! It's a cheap Mettle AD 600w strobe behind a 48" octa. Feathered from JUST out of frame at the top left corner.
