My sentiments exactly.

This is a photography forum, yet it is shockingly rare for an image of a finger on a trigger to go for more than just a few post before someone has to assume the photographer is ignorant of firearm safety.

Again, this is a photography forum. A visual arts forum. Not a firearms forum.

I'm guessing that self-appointed hall monitors are kept very, very busy writing, telephoning and emailing Hollywood producers and directors chastising them for unsafe practices in cinema and on TV.

Automobiles cause so much more havoc than firearms, but there is never a peep about safety when a model is standing in front or laying on a car. "Are you sure the ignition is off? Is the emergency brake set properly? Cars run over people!!"

Sorry for the rant, but the constant admonitions have just gotten very, very old.

Safety first. Safety last. Safety always.

Nothing wrong with simple reminders. A day can be ruined by mistake. A life can be ruined.

I am a US Marine and also a certified range safety officer and firearms instructor. I know of what I speak. I teach folks to have proper attitude and skills for handling firearms. It's fun all day long as long as the rules are followed. It starts with safe handling.

I am concerned over folks complaining about safety reminders.

What if that was your daughter modeling and she got hurt -- and you had no idea that she was around firearms she did not know how to handle. I'll bet you'll go after the photographer with 50 lawyers.

Please be safe out there.

It all comes down to context, but given the climate of this thread I've decided to pursue a personal campaign against another insidious worldwide threat to health and safety: diabetes. So I'm warning everyone now, the next image I see of a model with a doughnut in her mouth, so help me ....

This is all that needs to be said, and it is well said.

So well said that any more discussion on the matter will be deleted.

The topic as discussed thus far has been healthy debate relevant to photography. There have been no ad hominem attacks, and everyone participating has done so respectfully. Everyone agrees as to the underlying safety concerns. It's only the nature of the artistic representation which is at issue. Delete my comment if it pleases you. I'll report my own post.
