My first thought was how well this kitty blends in to his surroundings, a casual walk in the area might not be a good idea. That had to be a rush to go there and shoot these big cats and see the country they live in.

This is all just personal opinion obviously (so feel free to ignore), but if you are looking for constructive criticism then:

  • The dark bush on the right is visually distracting - it dominates the image.
  • There is less space in the direction the lion is looking than behind it, which makes the image feel unbalanced.
  • It looks a bit underexposed to me.


I would have cropped the image into a portrait orientation and lightened it up a little.

(Also, lions often look good in B&W).

I like the uniqueness of the shot... and I like the bush - the 'weight' of the bush pushes my eye down to the lion. Nice unconventional shot. I like both versions.
