My first proper attempt at the Antares Region of the Milky Way. I never realised how bad my 50mm 1.4 suffers from coma until I got the images back to my laptop and viewed them on full screen  Single image taken from Brisbane, Australia.

still a beautiful image. It's usually best to step a lens back to f/4 to keep stars crisp. Did you take more than just the 1 image? I've never had coma like that, but I don't have a FF sensor either.

Thanks. I did take a few more that night all at f1.4 with the same coma issues. I can't remember having this problem on my crop sensor, but that was a fair while ago so I may not have noticed.

I'll give it a try again tonight at f4 :) Thanks again for the input.

You've picked up plenty of MW detail for a 6 sec exposure, Damien! Where did you take the image? I'm guessing that you drove out of Brisbane for an hour or so to escape the light pollution? (I tend to drive out towards Cunningham's Gap for an hour to get darker skies.)

Cheers,
Stephen

Hi Stephen. You're right, this was taken on Bribie Island near Woorim beach. It's easier to just say 'Brisbane' when a lot of people are international members. My go to location for dark skies is Kilcoy, I love that area for shooting. I'll have to check out Cunningham's Gap though, I've never been down that way before.
