It's no longer a promotion, and for $9.99/month you get LR and PS.

I know you guys don't like the subscription model, but after seeing how integrated they made LR and PS to the cloud it's worth the price, IMO.

...well, when they raise the price, you don't have to continue your subscription.

And you will no longer have access to the software you were paying $120 a year for.

I can still use PSP4 that I bought 3 years ago, and LR 4 that bought 2 years ago.

And there in lies the problem with subscription models.

Yup, this. Once they got you, you are hooked. You stop paying, you stop using. The bleed you forever. For those that always must have the latest and greatest and upgrade every iteration the model works in the short term. For those that upgrade only when needed, the model sucks. If the price does change, or if your circumstances change and you stop paying, your screwed.

I have no issues with Adobe offering a subscription model to those that like that sort of payment schedule, but I am super pi$$ed that they abandon the license model forcing you into the other. They could have easily offered both. Subscription to those that want it and once a year, take a snapshot and offer it as a licensed stand alone for those that don't.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

How much did you pay for PSP4 (whatever that is)?

You can still buy LR as a standalone license should you decide to discontinue.

About $60.00, and it's Corel's Paint Shop Pro, a competitor of Photoshop since the 1991

CS6 for Students & Teachers is $429

429/120 = 3.575

So if you're lucky enough to get the Student/Teacher price of $429, then you're paying what equates to 3.575 years of use (assuming the $9.99 price stays constant).

Not that everyone upgrades every year, but Adobe "upgraded" nearly every two years. If we can expect Adobe to offer continuous updates with CC that we find useful, we benefit.

CS - 2003
CS2 - 2005
CS3 - 2007
CS4 - 2008
CS5 - 2010
CS6 - 2012

I clearly said I don't condone it. It was a tongue in cheek comment, but I understand given the inherent disadvantage of speaking through the internet (inability to detect tone).

And for those using PSP4 for $60...if it works for you, then that's a fantastic deal. And if it works for you, I don't know why you're complaining about Adobe's subscription model as it doesn't really seem to concern you anymore.

CC has been out what, about a year now? I don't know how pricing started, but it hasn't gone UP in the year it's been out. They actually maintained their promotional price. I don't know why people are deterred by the idea of Adobe raising prices in the future. All prices rise eventually. Look at gas prices.

If you need the gas, you pay for it. If you don't, you don't pay for it.

If you need Photoshop, you pay for it. If you don't, you don't pay for it.

Now that you don't have to commit to a whole year to lock in the $9.99 price, it's even better for the hobbyist, weekend warrior, or semi-pro. You pay for it only as you need it. You don't have to throw $429+ to only use it a few times a year. And for professionals...$120/year is nothing.

We were on vacation back in March and I was finishing post processing some photos to give to our youngest son and his gf. My CS6 stopped working. It wouldn't even open. I'm sure I could have figured it out, eventually, but it was Saturday night and I didn't want the hassle. I had been thinking about subscribing to the CC photographer's plan anyway so I did. Problem solved.

Long story just to say this: I was spending around $90 a year to upgrade my Lightroom program and I paid $576.15 for CS6 in 2012. So for a few dollars more, I get both programs for what I was paying for Lightroom alone. Everything has been working well. I'm a happy customer.

Oh, I know, they can raise the price over time. Wow, what a concept: prices rise over time. That's a shocker. ;)

btw, I fixed the problems with CS6 and it works even though I'm using Photoshop CC now.

I bit on the $9.99 offer, with the assumption it would go to around $20 per month in a year. If thry keep it where it is for awhile longer, I'm not going to complain. The only pieces of it I use are curves, content aware and cropping. My hope is LR has those, I think I have it as part of the CC but haven't tried it.

I know that I am outside of the norm on this board, but as someone who uses a very wide array of Adobe's products on a regular basis I think the cloud is a great option. I use Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Indesign, Premiere, After Effects, & Muse regularly and a lot of the updates they have pushed through have been very noticable to my work flow. Live objects, and live corners changed the way I work in photoshop and illustrator pretty dramatically.

I also love that they include web hosting for 5 websites through Business Catalyst, and typekit which is full of web friendly fonts that are licensed through the CC. Really the only thing I can think of that would make for a more complete creative package would be if Adobe bought up a company that offers stock music/vector art/footage and offered it alongside the CC.

If I only needed to use PS and LR it may be a different story but so far I have been very happy with the CC, and I always have my perpetual license of CS6 is I ever decide I need to stop paying monthly.

I just snagged this. Was paying $20 a month for the student version of creative cloud, but the only programs I used were LR and Photoshop. I can honestly say that I would not have photoshop if this plan didn't exist.
