I bought PS6 and LR5 before the subscription. I'm happy with LR5 and most of the time, it's all I use. I hardly ever use PS6. I only use it for level's and content aware. The only reason I bought PS6 was because I upgraded to a camera PS4 did not support. Until another camera comes along that PS6 does not support that I absolutely 'cannot live without', I don't see myself needing a future PS version. When that time comes, I'll seriously check out Photoshop Elements before subscribing to CC.

Oh, I know, they can raise the price over time. Wow, what a concept: prices rise over time. That's a shocker. ;)

Or the price might stay where it is or go down...

I subscribed to it last year at the $19.95/mo price for just PS. When they announced PS and LR together for $9.99 it seemed like a no brainier. I still had a few months on my year commitment, but was able to convert to the new lower price.

If you don't have a need or are happy with old versions, than stick to them. This deal made PS affordable for me as I was never going to be able to justify $600 for the standalone program knowing it would need regular upgrades, etc. $10/mo is a couple of Lattes or a fast food meal. Not exactly going to break the bank.

I swear, some folks here seem to want to squeeze a nickel so hard boogers pop out of Washington's nose...

I purchased CS3 years ago for $300 and have been happily using it for 4 years now, and will continue to use it for several more. I think that puts me at $4 a month. I picked up CS5 at the student bookstore for $40, and will use that for a long period of time as well. Photoshop doesn't really need updates, if you don't edit raw with it.

Subscription models only exist for the benefit of the manufacturer, not for the consumer no matter how their marketing department tries to spin it. There is a reason all companies are trying to move everything to the cloud, so they can charge you a use fee, and you will not own any copy of anything, movie, music, or software. I am in the SaaS business, and know just a bit on how this works and why we push for it.

Now that you don't have to commit to a whole year to lock in the $9.99 price, it's even better for the hobbyist, weekend warrior, or semi-pro. You pay for it only as you need it.

You got a reference for that statement? I think you still have to commit or prepay for a year even if they aren't calling it a "promotional price".
