If a tree falls in the woods and no-one is around to hear it, does it still fall?

Of course it flipping well does - what do you think the tree is - gravity defying? Did it just get back up of its own accord, look around, see no-one about, and snigger to itself? Honestly.

As to whether it makes a noise : if you a define a noise as a soundwave that is recognisable and audible to human hearing, then techincally no as no-one is around to hear it and describe the sound.

However, it's falling will still produce waveforms in the surrounding air.

My goodness I'm feeling profound today. :)
