How would my 6D compare to the new ELPH 150 IS?

In all seriousness, I am considering the specs on this little camera, and it looks great.
I understand it is a much smaller sensor, in a totally different league, as it only costs $130 USD.
Assuming I was using my 6D with a 24-105 f4 lens, how would this camera compare.
I have not shot much besides an iphone camera, before buying my T4i and now my 6D

Question is:
Would this be a total waste of money when compared to the DSLR, or a great little camera for the cash?

Heya,

The 6D doesn't compare, at all, to that camera.

What is your goal?

Very best,

It would never replace my 6D :D so I am not looking for that type of comparing.

My goal would be to buy a good P&S for when I don't want to lug around the DSLR all day.
While looking at the G16 and other powershots I saw ads for the new ELPH P&S
When comparing the specs on it I was pleasantly surprised.
While it can't give me low light or f1.2 dof, it seems well rounded.

Places?
Like Universal Studios Park for example. I am bringing the DSRL on the trip but not in the park.
As I would then need a backpack and to get a locker for the rollercoasters. :(

What is a good P&S that you (members) would recommend?

My budget is under $300 as it would be good to have a general backup for my 6D
but after comparing specs to the prices of the most recent P&S's it seems great for the price.

Heya,

Your iphone does pretty well as a P&S.

Have you considered an EOS-M with a 22mm F2? With a Fotodiox adapter ($50) you can use all your current lenses too, making it a handy backup camera that can be the size of a P&S with it's 22mm pancake lens. It's within budget.

I have a S100 P&S. It does it's job. But for the cost, I much prefer my junk gripped XSi to it, it cost less funny enough.

Very best,

I would stay away from the Elph series.. might as well use a phone. $300 is a low-ish budget, so i would look at an S model Powershot.

Something like an S110 (external link), fits within your budget and has a fast lens..and similar focal range to your 6D/24-105.

That S110 has my interest. Here I can get the S120 for $300 USD
I would want a literally pocketable camera, while the Eos-M has advantages, it is not what I need.
Thanks for your help, It seems like there are definite advantages comparing the S120 to the ELPH 150
Last question: Why is the MP count so low for the S120 (12mp?) compared to all the other current Canon P&S's?
While mp isn't everything, it this a non-factor when comparing that tiny sensor and all just marketing hype?
Just noticed it was made in 2013 :(

I must have bought 50 PnSs over the years. Maybe more. By far and away THE best PnS I have ever purchased was the ELPH 330. It's been replaced by the 340 which I hear is not as good. If you can find one, you can't spend ~$125 any better.

As to comparing it to a 6D, I won't even go there except to say, send me your 6D and I'll send you my ELPH 330 and never look back. You'll love your new PnS. :D

I have the S100. Excellent little camera. Sharp, full manual, and a larger sensor than is typical for point and shoot.

+1 to Sxxx series. We have had our S95 for years and still love it. When I don't feel like carrying the 70D, I have no qualms leaving at home because my wife has the S95 and unless it's straight up dark that thing does a great job all by itself.

You might want to seek out an S110. Not hard to find people preferring it to the S120 and you would save some dough.

My only worry about the S100 is mine is in the serial numbers that had the lens issue. There is a service bulletin on it but Canon will only fix it if it breaks. I keep waiting for the day I don't have the 70D and the thing dies on me when I really hoped to have more than a camera phone.

I live in Japan, the S110 costs $250 new and the S120 costs $300 new
The S110 is $200 used and the S120 used is $250

If you're not afraid to stray away from Canon, the Panasonic LX7 is a ripping good little camera. Sharp, fast, wide lens (24-90 equivalent) and can be had very reasonably right now. Due to a new model coming soon.

As none of my gear would work 'with' this PnS I could stray from Canon.
After doing more research I am considering the Canon S120 or the Nikon P340.
The Canon seems superior in ISO abilities as the cost here in Japan is the same.
I am open to all quality cameras that are literally pocketable and $300 or less.
