will it not? is it not a better image sensor? thats the reason i was asking, id like input from someone with knowledge of the cameras. id really like to be able to shoot at higher iso's without needing to fight so much noise. it also seems that the camera gives better 100% crop results than the t1i. im just curious if there is a good reason to upgrade from the t1i and what model would it be compared to the cost of upgrade.

I bought the 70-300 when I first got my T1i in 2009. Moving up to the 70-200 for me was a marked improvement. The contrast and color capture seemed to be in a differnt league. Smooth and vibrant images as compared with the hard and slightly flat images with the 70-300. (Excellent lens by itself, just there was no going back to non-L after that purchase.

The T2i's 63 zone metering gave far better color rendention and contrast straight out of camera. (Using a friend's for awhile). Nevertheless, its still a 1.6 crop...with MORE pixels jammed into the same space (not a good thing); just like the 60D. Haven't owned the 60D or 7D, so can't comment; but for the price range the IQ is close to the same. The features that enable easier capture are what appear to differntiate the models... in which case, i'd just splurge and get the 7D if I were upgrading to a 1.6 crop.

but that's me ;)

I agree with Mikewinburn's comments. I am patiently waiting until I can upgrade from my Rebel Xti to the 7D. There us simply to much excellent visual evidence showing the 7D on quality glass.

so the 7D is very noticeable improvement over the 60D? i dont think i understand the 1.6 crop stuff though.

the crop stuff is:

the camera body is either crop (like the 7D) or full frame (like the 5Dmkii) (this is relating to the sensor in the camera)

on a crop everything seen through the lens needs to be multiplied by 1.6

so a 100mm lens will acutallly equate to being a 160mm lens

on a full frame, there is no magnification and it would stay at 100mm

the full frame will be a higher quality image (and be more expensive)

for some people , depending on what they shoot the crop body is an advantage as it gives longer reach, ie sports, wildlife etc

other people , who want the best possible image quality would go for full frame, ie wedding photographers

the 7D is a very capable camera especially for fps and fast focusing.

again, being similar sensors, i'd suspect image quality not too different.

Camera discussions get covered a lot in the Camera section:

https://photography-on-the.net …lay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=9

And believe me, if you keep an eye on that section you will see enough "Crop Vs Full Frame" discussions to, well, have your head spinning a bit!

The good news for us in this thread is that this lens is still a fantasic lens, even though it's been "outdated" by the MkII!

Results like this remind me that I really don't need to rush out and snag the MkII...

You should link this in every one of the "do I need to upgrade?" threads.

Great shot
