May I ask something? :)

What's the difference between the Mki and the Mkii?

I have the f4 non IS, but want to upgrade to the 2.8 IS. Is the Mkii actually $800 better than a Mki? (besides being newer..)

Thanks,
Rylan

^^I've been debating myself, it's probably not worth the difference but it's nice to have.=) I believe it's sharper wide open and better IS system.

Not handheld I guess... ;)
Great shot, I really like that the water is not boring clean and the reflections of the turtle.

The MkII also has a closer MFD than does the MkI version.

Image quality, IS capability, and focus speed are all improved. I have not read on POTN of very many people selling their Mk II, but I have for the Mk I

Others already listed the improvements. MKI performs well enough for a hobby photographer and even professionals use it for portraits, sports etc.
If you are on a budget and also need some other lenses then go for the MKI (in Europe you cannot really get new ones any more). If not then go for the MKII.

Thanks for the info! Now it's time to start shopping the used market. :)

A few recent ones from a track and field meet. Starting to consider picking up the 300mm f/4 IS. Anyone use that one? Its either gonna be that one or possible the 400mm f/5.6. Regardless a new lens purchase is a ways away.

This lens is my work horse. I have an older V1 lens (UQ) and it still works flawlessly.
