does it still happen if you don't use the hood?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Yes, it is the nature of the lens. You can remove it easily in pp with lens profile
It happens in V2 as well.

I've had the same experience. It vignettes slightly on my 5DIII as well. Easily fixed in PS.

1Dx - 5DIII - 40D - Canon 24-70LII, 100L macro, 135L, 16-35L, 70-200 f4 and 100-400L lenses

I don't see any info on Canon's sales pitch stating it's vignetting

Would you expect them to state this?

That's what lab reviews are for:

You're seriously complaining about this? Well if it upsets you so much, return it. It's really not that big of a deal.

Every lens I've owned vignettes when used wide open or close to wide open (particularly at the wide end if a zoom). It's normal and expected.

OP have you EVER looked into vignetting? Do you know what you are talking about?

All lenses have vignetting at their maximum aperture. Check out the $5000 Carl Zeiss Otus (a rather expensive prime, should be noted):

Do you think that Carl Zeiss is also deceiving their customers?

Please leave the sarcasm about square wheels out of the discussion...

Did u know your lens also distorts? Requires a camera to be able to capture a picture? Should not be dropped else the glass may break? And your lens also redirects light?

All lenses vignette. Period. It's not something that needs to be stated.

Not even remotely the same thing. But a car with square wheels would be very obvious. As is vignetting on lenses, so I guess your analogy sorta works.
