The IS alone worth the price difference. For your work in interiors this could be very handy!

I just order mine today!!! !I have the 17 to 40 and I really like it. I wanted the IS and hopefully better sharpness. A used 17 to 40 is one of the best L values.

I had the 17-40, sold it, and bought the 16-35 on sale. i ended up paying about $400 to upgrade.

IS is great when I am using it as the walk around/standard lens on my 1D4 (it feels like a low 20s to 50 zoom on the 1.3X crop).

But, I am not so sure the sharpness is a big enough issue alone if you are using it for landscapes, on a tripod, at f/8 or f/11.

On my 5D3, it certainly does look somewhat sharper in the corners, but it's not the major major difference many imply when compared to the 17-40.

My attempt at a 3 image stack. Log, rock, and underwater pebbles for focus and lights. Background water as another image for mid tones. Mountains and sunset for different focus and darker tones.

Now I can see a little bit of masking halo on the right side of the rock. I think I spent about 10 mins in PS on this. lol.

Looking forward to the upgrade. The main reason I bought it was for the IS.. I heard there was an improvment in lens flare.

I think I will miss the weight of the 17 to 40 *LOL*

Where are the tracks? I don't see any tracks showing how the kangaroo got there. I've enlarged the image greatly, but see no tracks. Can you help me with this?
