Just got my lens today! Barely a chance to shoot, just test shots. AF seems spot on, quality is nice. Only complaint at all is the IS is loud, louder than my 70-200 and louder than it was on my 24-105. No big deal though. Do others notice the same?

Anyways, fooling around: (Can't believe how wide 16mm really is)

No. Haven't heard a thing. Is this a situation where you have read that it is loud and tried hard to listen for it because of that? I've used mine both indoors and out and haven't noticed. Then again, I can't really think of a time when I've noticed it from any of my lenses. Guess it's not loud enough to overpower people talking, traffic, background TV noise, etc.

i don't know what i would do without my reverse grad

I admittedly have great hearing, but there is a noticeable "Tssk" or "Cnnnk" when the IS starts, and when it shuts down and I'd be surprised if anyone couldn't hear this. I can't hear it working in between the start and finish unless I put the lens up to my ear though. It's not really a problem for me, I'm just curious because its definitely louder than other lenses I've owned or own. It's "different" sounding too.

i know how you feel Rob, only a few months ago i dropped my lee foundation kit, adapter ring and a BW kaesemann slim cpl into the ocean...luckily my singh ray popped out before it fell in the water (made a little scratch down the side tho...doesn't affected image but still %$#* me off nonetheless)

to add to the injury my old lee adapter ring has thread and allows lens cap and also screw on filters to go on...the new lee adapter rings i replaced it with don't ><

I have read conflicting reports about this IS issue. Before I got my copy, I kept reading posts from people saying it was loud, and posts from people saying they couldn't hear it.
I can't hear mine (unless I put my ear to the lens, really). It's no louder than any other IS I have come across so far.
Maybe there's a variance in manufacturing?

Re: filters. I have never tried the reverse GND. One of these days.
Other than that, I have found myself using filters less and less. The 10-stop ND is about the only thing I use anymore. My Lee kit has been gathering dust. Granted, I haven't been out shooting landscapes much lately, which might explain it, hehe.

I do this for most of my GND and reverse GND needs. It's really just as good in my opinion.

i can hear my IS engaging and that's about it...

and with filters i guess i pretty much just shoot sunrise/sets lol so the reverse grad is just so invaluable to me...especially it being a 4 stop one
