Arrive at a nice location to shot some landscape. I cant get my lens to auto focus. I am thinking maybe the motor. I switch to manual. Not a problem I do this most times anyway. I switch to my 70-200 to get some different shots....wont auto focus. I think must be the camera. I go through all of my setting to see if a hit something by mistake and see nothing. Go back home and start playing with the camera. All of the sudden the bulb goes off. The last time I had the camera out I switched to back button focus. Man it sucks getting old.

But, it is always a great relief to get things going again. I just went through a similar thing yesterday, only it was a lawnmower that would not start. A local small engine shop got it going before I had driven home from dropping it off. I changed breather filter, spark plug, oil and put in fresh fuel....nada! Cable had slipped from its correct position, controlling carburator. Sheesh!

Since I always set all my cameras new out of the box to BBF, I have conditioned myself and don't forget. Now if somebody else gives me a camera to take their pic, I cannot operate the darn thing because it doesn't do what I tell it, and when I hit the shutter, the focus shifts to something else. :)

Yup, the old stuff creeps in and boy does it cause havoc. Was shooting from a blind with my speedlights taped to trees trying to catch some birds. Since I was using the IR feature and noticed I was getting a few hotspots. I dialed them back in the camera about -2/3. Exposure dead nut. A week later was shooting birds with my flash mounted on the camera at longer distance and could not figure out for the life of me why the flash was struggling to light the bird the way I wanted. Only took me 2 days to remember I had set compensation on the camera. I am just hoping that someday I shoot a masterpiece and will have no idea how I shot it!!

Yep gettin' up thar in years are ya?? ;) Wait till ya' get around my age, double yours and add a few. Hope you don't get in your car to go out shooting, drive 50 miles, only to realize you fergot yer camera, or what you was gonna do..;):)

So far I've forgot the AF/MF setting, forgot to turn the flash on, (went through settings on the camera adjusting FEC), then forgot to put the memory card in.

Yes, I feel a little better now after reading all of this. My exprience is somewhat the same. I use 2 bodies when I was doing parades and festivals. One night I switched both to the rear thumb button for AF (a good idea.) Drove 100+ miles to a small town north of here for thier parade. Parked at the end of the parade route. Wlaked the entire 2+ mile route to the beginning to get pix of everyone getting ready. 90F that day and I am not young. Went to take my first shot and AF was not coming on. Good thing I carry 2 bodies, eh? Tried 2nd camera and same thing! What are the odds of 2 cameras breaking at the same time? Walked back to my car, drove home, had a few drinks before I realized what had happend. Reset both bodies to work the "normal" way. Waited 3 weeks and tried it again - switching AF to rear button only. Same routine, new city, another 2+ mile parade route. Darn if both cameras were broke gain. Drove home. Desided thia was just not working. I waited until I bought 2 new bodies at the same time and out of the box I made both only AF with the rear button. NO problem. I knew how these new cameras worked and was never confused (in that way) again. Gene

Haha you didnt really drive 50 miles and forgot your camera did you?

Or last week i had my fuji x100s and was shooting in a dimly lit area and was wondering why even at 6400 iso the images came out underexposed. Damn you built in ND filter

Just reminded me I need to pick up box of Depends for myself.

And I agree, your camera could be getting old.
Better not wait until things get worse.
Buy something glossy and new.
