Dave Dugdale (learningdslrvideo.com) announced today
he will be getting rid of all his Canon gear in favor of the new GH4 and compatible glass. A few other "smaller" names in the industry have also decided to transition away from Canon in favor of these new sub $4k cameras (BMPC, 4kBMCC, GH4, A7, etc).
Are we finally to a point where Canon will feel pressure to release an affordable camera to compete with these little monsters? Or will they stick with the status quo and prevent cannibalizing their C100/300/1DC cinema lines?
I am in the group of shooters who jumped on the DSLR bandwagon 5-7 years ago and have since invested in a ton of Canon glass while also upgrading bodies every couple years from t2i/xxd to 5dmkii to 5dmkiii/1DX. IMO this group is very large and is getting restless with Canon. We are several years removed from the 1DX/5dmkiii release with no signs of a new affordable camera on the horizon capable of competing with the GH4.
Right new I am split between jumping ship into one of these other platforms or ponying up the extra dough for a C100. After seeing the GH4 footage and reviews, it seems like a huge waste money to spend $6K on the C100.
