I have an outdoor shoot coming up soon and availability of 120v power is going to be an issue. I don't do much outdoor strobe work and don't want to buy a battery inverter right now and Buff warns against dirty power to run his lights. I have a Honda 2000 watt generator that is supposed to have very stable output and be able to run computers. Has anyone successfully used a Honda generator to power their strobes?

Which model of Honda is it? If it's their 'i' (inverter) type, you're perfectly fine. I have used Yamaha EF2000i and they're sine wave generators, safe for sensitive electronics.

if your Honda is not good enough, you can connect a good UPS in between,
something like APC pure sine wave, it costs more for sure

Buff battery pack also designed using pure sine wave inverter

The Honda 2000i doesn't give pure sine wave out, but an approximation that's close enough. More important, it will maintain the frequency at 50 Hz regardless of load level (or 60 Hz if it's that model).

I have a version that costs 1/4 of the Honda, has 2.3 kVA capacity and it keeps the frequency at 49.92 Hz no matter what. So they are very good at that.
