I currently use YN-603's and they work great. No complaints except the placement of the power switch. I want to be able to control groups/zones from my camera so I'm going to upgrade my triggers. Would you guys choose YN-622's over the PW's or just shell out the extra $$$ for the PW +III's?

I know the 622's by themselves can't control groups like the PW's can but I'm anticipating the 622Tx for Canon (I can find it everywhere for Nikon so I assume the Canon version is on it's way).

(1)Yongnuo or PW? Well, it's fairly likely that Yongnuo will still be in business in 12/24/36 months time. Who can say the same about Pocket Wizard, given recent reports?
(2)You can certainly control groups with the 622s. Whether the PWs do something extra other than global/group/mixed mode control I wouldn't know but the YN622s can certainly do all those.

The YN622C-TX is currently still in development, ironing out the final hitches before production as I understand it. The Nikon version interacts in a different way with the camera but the end result is extremely useful and versatile. One or two folks elsewhere have mentioned range limitations, but out of the large number sold it's perhaps to be expected that there is the odd glitch.

Have a look at Clive Bolton's "The Other Yongnuo User Guide v3.5" (external link) for details of what the 622C can and can't do. It's to be found at https://docs.google.com …Ig0gMVFpqNkpBYXBHajA/edit (external link)

Other odd bits over the decades, simply to get the job done - not merely to polish and brag about cos I'm too mean to buy the polish!

I didn't know groups could be controlled with the 622's. Is it as easy and straightforward to turn on/off each group/zone as it is on the PW+III's?

No idea. Pocket Wizard are a totally ridiculous price in the UK which kills completely any interest in playing. Also they launched a system in Europe a while back without researching - it seriously interfered with standard European Emergency Frequencies. If PW can't be bothered checking something so basic, I don't want to bother with their products at all. Then there was the 580EXII interference fiasco as well. Hardly inspires confidence.

Here's an example of Group control on a 7D, it's even easier on the 5D Mk III. The forthcoming C-TX simply moves these facilities to the camera-top controller (plus adds loads more facilities) and makes them even easier still to set.

Canon group controls have some limitations, such as A and B are always on.

The YN-622C-TX will provide fully freeform control, e.g.

I won't be able to control a manual studio strobe with 622's the same as a speedlight will I? Maybe I wasn't as clear as I could have been. I want to be able to have 3 strobes connected to triggers and turn 1 off if I don't want it firing from the trigger on camera, then turn it back on and turn one of the other one's off if I need to. That's where the quad-zone triggering of the PW+III's is tempting.

The current 622C is restricted (by design) to Canon's pre-2012 protocols. They are not flexible.

The 622C-TX provides for each of the three groups to be set independently to ETTL, Manual, Supersync or OFF.

It's just not available yet...
