With the help of my newly acquired imaging software/hack on my camera (Magic Lantern) I was able to take the most detailed picture of the Milky Way I have ever captured. 60 images stacked in DSS with 20 Darks and 20 Bias. I know it's not the best MW image out there but I'm really proud of it! It's a break though for me. Enjoy

Great shot for sure, how did ML help with this?

I'm really proud of it!

Sometimes we forget what's important in a hobby. Well done.
Much nicer stars in this one than the one in the "don't need a telescope" thread. Is it the same lens and if so, how far was it stopped down ?
I'm also curious about how ML helped.

Steve.

Thanks Jimmy. I used ML's intervalometer to take a specific amount of images all in a row. Without the intervalometer I would have had to hit the shutter for every shot and possibly shaken the camera out of align while doing so. I also used ML's Sound trigger to take a picture whenever I wanted without having to touch the camera. I set the trigger to snap a picture when I clapped but not sensitive enough that talking would trigger it. ML's got some really neat features IMO.

Steve.

Cheers Steve. Yeah, same 50 f1.4 lens. I found the minimum speed I could get away with without bad coma was f3.5  I'm gonna try the 85mm f1.8 tonight and see if that suffers the same problem.

I was also in a darker zone which I think helped a lot.

No problem Weisun.

6D with 50mm @ f3.5
ISO 8000
6 seconds

The 6D was attached firmly to a tripod with magic lantern running the intervalometer taking continuous 6 seconds exposures. My own rule of thumb is a minimum of 20 Dark and Bias frames while stacking. Because 6D's are already fairly good at handling noise, I figured I wouldn't need more than 60 exposures to eliminate most of it.

I learn't how to stack from Baz's tutorial here on the forum and also this really good guide to using Deep sky stacker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0JSTF8SGi4 (external link)
