Specific information in a deceptively vague package...a perfect recipe.

The 5D4, especially, had better be something special.

With the upcoming D800s being able to shoot 36MP frames at 6fps, they've got the 5D3 beaten or matched in every aspect of performance - resolution, DR, frame rate, AF. And there's still no adequate Canon replacement for the 1Ds3, or any Canon ideal for use as a studio or landscape camera (the 5D3 being the best of the bunch, but no better for this than the 5D2, which is, itself, no better than the 2008-vintage A900 and D3x).

Is D800 AF better than 5d3? I thought the 5d3/1dx AF was supposed to be the better than the competition.

Not better, not worse. About the same.

Not quite D4/1dx standard, though, when it come to tracking fast, low-contrast targets running towards or away from you.

I'd like to see a 36MP or higher 1Ds3 replacement, for those of us who need resolution or cropability, combined with fast AF.

Thanks. Wow, I didn't know that. The D800 must be a great camera body.

Fingers crossed for the new Canon tech. It's only low ISO noise and DR that really need a bump, other than that Canon tech is great.

Well... Canon needs something like this. Not just the tech, but to make news. and generate excitement.

I wonder what the new sensor tech will be. Will it be three layer silicon ala Faveon? Or will the color be split by a prism and sent to specific photo sites? Personally, I think the Bayer matrix is old hat! I like making the most of every photon.

Even if it's Foveon, it still needs the megapixel count. Foveon's good for colour resolution and lack of artifacts, but doesn't help with spatial resolution.

I hope it is not foveon. It is good but it seems like an expensive way to get the colour improvement.

I think the Fuji X-trans seems like a better compromise to improve the colour a little. I don't think Canon will go for something like that though, because the video side of things is not good on X-trans and they seem to value that highly.

One sentence in this sorry show how stupid these rummer sites are

"If the technology in the EOS 7D replacement is as great as people are claiming it to be (we don’t yet know what it is),"

That is just stupid, how can it be a great as people claim when nobody has a clue what, if anything will be in 7D replacement.

The rumor sites (and the general public) don't know what it is. The sources of the rumor (Canon employees, field testers, etc.) certainly do know both what it is and how good it is.

The questions are around how accurate is the information (opinion versus fact, early prototype versus production test sample, etc.) and how reliable is it (will Canon change schedules, technologies, etc.)

Bloody Hell!!! Can't we get the 7D mk2 rumours out of the way first before we all start hypervascallating (I just made that up) over the pro bodies.

Maybe they''ll mimic the Majic Lantern tech and apply it to a dual pixel dense sensor with which they can bin pixel pairs, or do dual exposure simultaneously. Something like that would address Canon's two big sensor weak points relative to Nikon; Dynamic Range and Hi-ISO noise levels. This is something relatively easy to do without any huge leap in sensor technology, but would require a better CPU, more buffers, and re-masking their sensor to create a dual channel array.
