So I just uploaded an image and went to Flickr to check it, lo and behold they got rid of that obnoxious viewing screen and went back to the two part "image on top info on bottom" format. It was about frackin' time!

Nice to see. One step in the right direction, at least. I still despise the way a user's Photostream is displayed and loads dynamically, though. Maybe there's hope on that front too.

I was very active on Flickr from about 2006-12 or so, then largely jumped ship to 500px when the new design rolled out. Now I may be clawing my way back home since the 500px design has become something of a monster itself, and worse yet, applies compression to JPGs.

one thing i cant stand about flickr is that they still sharpen your images. i often upload an image, see how aweful flickr makes it by oversharpening and then i take it down. i seldom touch flickr because of that.

They must be slowly rolling out the change. I get the new layout on Chrome, but it's still the same on Safari (on my iOS devices) and on Internet Explorer.

It's been going off and on here for two weeks. I believe they are perfecting their advertising (every 4th pic or so you get and ad).

I do like that Yahoo seems to be listening, but I hope we don't start seeing frequent overhauls like this. What is it now: Three major layout changes in the space of a year or so?

I think this latest layout looks like it could be a winner, but there are things that bug me somewhat:

1. Graphically it has a similar appearance (fine-line typeface, etc.) as iOS - which says "me too" or "we aren't original thinkers."

2. Functionally I hate the trend towards sacrificing intuitiveness on the altar of graphical minimalism. For instance, in the current layout if you want to edit things like the upload date (useful for re-sequencing your Photostream), you just moused over the three dots for a large menu. Now, unintuitively, you just mouse on the photo's date. Sure, I'll get used to it no problem, but I just hate that these designers turn this stuff into an Easter Egg hunt for their users.

3. I tried adding tags the other day (new layout), and it now seems to add tags in reverse order. Hate that.

All in all though, I am liking the new look a more than previous versions. :)
