Ive have used the L Macro... could anyone speculate or comment on how the Nikon macro performs compared with the Canon?

Similar IQ?

Can't comment on the Nikon. Just wanted to say nice reef. I used to have a 12 gallon but then had kids and didn't have time to take care of it. I'd love to set up another one and take photos of it

Will you be using the Nikon on a Canon body? If so, you lose AF and VR.

It would be one or the other, no mixing... Just trying to go from one SLR to the other and maybe depending on which Lens may be better than the other may persuade my camera choice...

In general, most macro lenses are very sharp. Even on this Canon-focused forum, most people say the only real difference between the nonL and L 100mm macro is the IS of the L. IQ is close enough that it isn't worth the extra cost.
If you shoot Nikon their version is fine. If you shoot Canon their version is fine. I wouldn't let those lens choices be my deciding factor.

I quick peek at DxO seems to show that the two are practically identical. However, if your partnering the 105mm with either the D800 or D600, the extra resolution gets you a lot more fine detail and for macro, detail is everything. :)

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
