My dad was cleaning out his home office and just handed me an Olympus film camera in a grey Olympus case. Looking on Ebay it seems pretty worthless (as I thought) but I wanted to check with the smart people here if it would be of use to someone. Seems a shame to just toss it. It looks just like this one (this is Not my listing, just posted for reference)

Thanks, that's what I thought. I don't want $ for it, but didn't know if people used them for parts or for some other purpose. Seems like such a shame to just trash it. Maybe I will put it on the craigslist free section :)

If you happen to pass anywhere near a goodwill, salvation army, or similar thrift shop you can drop it off.

Its the most likely route for it to find a loving home, plus the charity gets a benefit and you can get a tax deduction if you itemize.

Check if any photography schools/students would take it. I believe some would still purchase one inexpensively in order to learn the basic of photography, including how to develop negatives.

Also a great idea. If I can find one they are welcome to have it ;)

High Schools can be a good place for "Introductory" photography programs, and a lot of those programs actually require the use of film cameras, and if possible provide loans to the students!

Film cameras for educational use must generally allow for manual control of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Unless I'm mistaken, the camera in question only has manual control for ISO.

Film cameras for educational use are increasingly mythical. Some comprehensive programs still have a film section, but its increasingly rare. The Craigslist ads hawking a 30 year old minolta for $100 claiming it to be perfect for a student are a serious pet peeve of mine.

Yep! I can't believe my eyes at the high number of Craigslist ads offering what you've described.

OP, good on ya for checking and trying to send your Olympus to a good home.
