So i'm going to get some money and have the opportunity to buy photography gear that I probably only dreamed of having.

One lens I'm looking at getting is the sigma 120-300f2.8 OS. I'm having problems deciding which route to go is the best though. I think optically the sport/non sport are supposed to be the same, so it comes down to the dock capabilities unless I'm mistaken.

Right now, it's like this:

Used non Sport- going price seems to be about $2,000 or so
Brand new non Sport- going price is $2,700

Used Sports, seem to be really hard to find, I recently saw one on ebay go for $2,500, but they seem to rarely pop up. I'm not sure if waiting is the way to go
New Sport is $3,500

It seems to me to be such a huge range for lenses that aren't all that different(again if I'm missing something please let me know)

I like the idea of new for sigmas partly because of the longer warranty, but i think if I'm buying new I'd go for the non Sport to save money.

So what would you do in my shoes?

I'd still spend the money saved on photography items, but it would allow me to get more things that I've wanted.

Dock capabilities, and oddly the Sport is heavier! (gotta love sigma when the rest of the world is working on making things lighter! :) )

I don't think you are missing anything. The Dock capabilities seem huge though.

If you buy one let me know. Would love to try one. I am also thinking of one for the coming football season.

yeah, i forgot about the weight difference, i think i've just assumed this thing is going to be heavy either way...

i'm pretty sure i'm going to get one, I'll probably end up waiting for a used Sports, as I don't really want to regret not going for it

ideal situation is a used sports with reciept, and a 2X TC for like $3,000 :)
