Pin-Tailed Whydah...guy comes everyday in what I believe is a mating behavior. He starts a slow static kind of fly and flaps his long feathers singing a high sweet whistle with 2 or 3 females behind him.

That is a beautiful bird but that tail is amazing as it is so large in proportion to the size of the bird.

It has been getting longer. At this time is basically double the size of the bird.

Great shots and good progression of showing the tail growth.

No surprise, he came today but with a bonus. A female was with him...

She was far away, its not a great image but you can see how she is very similar to him except the long tail feathers, and slightly darker color.

While she was on the ground he took off to a high tree branch. Today was very windy and he showed off how cool his tail feathers moved with it.

Another nice bonus, a Puerto Rican Spindalis, male. This is a big crop from the original and it shows the capacity of the 6D, it kept very nice details. I was surprised.

Very nice. I really like the comparison shots of how the tail grows.

Guy is my hero. I have seen between 3 to 4 ladies behind him when he is doing the little show of singing and flapping his tail feathers.

Thanks guys!

So does he only grow them for mating season then lose them until next year?
