I took this photo at around 6:30pm last weekend. I'm conflicted about what color temperature to make it. The first one is with 8000K and the second is 10000K. I'm trying to get the skin tones as accurate as possible and anything lower than that looks too grayish.

Thoughts?

Thanks for looking!

What AF focus were you using, looks like the metering was picking up the bright window behind them ?

I believe I was using One Shot, but it could have be AI Servo. (Luckily) The focus is on the faces though.

Only you can remember what the colours really were - very subjective). This is my guess just altering colour balance through r, g and b levels in PS.

I like the first one for skin tones. The second is OK too though IMO, maybe split the difference.

I would use PS/Elements to tone down the background, but I guess they were in the shade so you are dealing with two separate WB.

White balance can be very subjective and influenced by personal preferences. These images are complicated by the male adult and child have fair, reddish skin tones and the female has a more warm, brownish skin tone. They are standing in the shade which will also affect the white balance.

Here is my attempt. I also tried to bring down the exposure as well. I'm afraid I can't give you what temperatures I used. That information wasn't shown when editing a jpg.

Noah, what editing software are you using? I user LR5 and would have likely done the white balance dropper and sampled off her shirt. That appears to be the best white point on the image. Since I am not at home, I can't do it right now and see what it produces. I do like what Doc created from a color perspective. It looks natural to me, but know you have a better idea of what the real colors are.

I did use the WB dropper in LR5. I can't remember if i used the whites in an eye or her shirt.

I think the 8000K looks better.
