I went out on Woodward last night to Duggan's (my favorite background). It's just south of "The Shell" south of 13-1/2 Mile Rd.

Driving down Woodward, there were tons of cars parked along the street with people sitting in lawn chairs. Classics were in & out & parked in the Shell all evening. Lots of cars on Woodward & there were actually spaces in traffic to shoot them without mom's mini van in the shot.

For me, the best light comes after 8:30 PM & lasts about 1/2 hour. So I suggest that if you want to get "Cruise shots", now is the time to get out there. You might want to shoot a little faster than 1/15 sec. My images were a little blurry! ; D

That 'action' shot of the '30's Ford is excellent. I don't have EXIF...I'm wondering what F stop you used ?

My wife's aunt tells us we need to visit Detroit and Woodward Ave....the vintage/muscle car photographic opportunities are amazing....she says.

Thanks! That one was at f/8, but at that time of the evening, it can change every 5 minutes. I usually increase the f-stop until I get to f/2.8, & then start raising the ISO until I can only see headlights & can't tell what the car coming is.

Nice, but you've 'clipped' the rear end of the car. :(

Very interesting Frank. Some of your old Waterford Hills shots were/are classic examples of this technique.

I'm bumping the thread because the season is here again, & since I've moved, I don't expect to be covering it this year. If anyone intends to go out for it & get images of cars moving on the road, NOW is the time to do it as it's only going to get more crowded with traffic stopped in all lanes. Here's what Woodward looked like a few years ago "Nightmare Cruise" with a happy ending. & it's only going to get worse from here on in.

Other 2014 threads:
"Pre Cruise" Wednesday on the Woodward parking lot - 8/13/2014
"Pre Cruise" Saturday 8/9/2014
More from the "Pre Cruise" July 11th.
A few from Fridays "Pre Cruise". One week to go!

So is Woodward the car equivalent of Oshkosh?

Great panning shots, really like your 55 Chevy on the previous Woodward post.

I'd say yes, except that it goes on all Summer long. And on any given day, there are 6 to a dozen Classic car meets going on in the area.
