Hi all,

Just wanted to share some photos of British American Football, I've been flowing my local team and photographing at the home games.

It would be great to hear of any hints and tips from my fellow photographers across the pond on how to improve my shots.

On with the show, the home team is the Oxford Saints and they play in white.

Great job! American football in the UK, who would of thought.

I noticed some illegal face mask grabbing in two of the shots. I hope they got penalized.

Gaz84 - Bombers QB shot is probably the best of the bunch. Sharp, narrow depth of field, good colors. Some of the others are a little soft and there are a lot of bodies in those shots. Try picking action with fewer players in the shot. Nice catch (pun intended) of the dropped kick/punt return, nice crop but it's a little OOF.

Papagary - face masks were the first things I noticed. Lack of any spectators was the second :)

Maybe they were playing rugby rules with the face mask.

Hi all,

Thanks for you replies and comments. The Saints where set up in 1983 and have been playing Football since then, the universities (collages) over here seem to play a lot, it has started getting more popular the last few years even more so since we now have multiple NFL games in London. But the whole sport at all levels is being push, junior, women’s, flag football and seems to be all year round.

I seem to see a lot of face masks and personal foals in the game over here that go unchecked, the officials don’t seem to be the best. The game against the Bombers last weekend had a 10 minute delay while the officials sorted one ruling out. A line judge flagged, they all chatted for a bit but the ref just wanted to wave the ruling off so then the coach could time out, then the officials had a chat, then chatted with coach again, then chatted with the other coach then chatted with them self’s again. Ended up going with the foul the line judge saw in the first place.

The Saints have another home game this afternoon so I’ll try focusing on getting fewer players in the shots.

Thanks for the replays and the kind comments. Struggled last weekend as both teams played a lot of running plays which went though the middle so lots of players in the photos again, I'll get some photos up soon.

Only fair - we play their football!

Proud of our team - when I played in High School and College(1970-76) I was just about the only US-born player. Things have certainly changed!
