Now that Sony has changed the game with their 36MP A7R Full Frame Mirrorless camera, will Canon follow suit. Or will they keep assuming (wrongly so) that professionals aren't that interested in mirrorless?

Jun 30, 2014 14:51 | #6 What do you mean "give it time?" Canon could have come out with the first full frame mirrorless, but they chose not to. How will giving Canon "more time" to improve upon a design they haven't even begun to develop ever going to get a "worthy" Canon mirrorrless on the market? I suspect Canon doesn't believe that professionals will buy into the mirrorless concept; otherwise, they would get going pronto. But no, they let Sony take the lead. Granted the mirrorless technology is in its infancy, but what is Canon waiting for? Do they plan to buy out the Sony mirrorless line after Sony perfects it? I don't think so. In this industry, there are leaders and there are followers. Sony has stepped up to the plate as a leader with the mirrorless platform. Message to Canon, if you ever want me to upgrade my Canon 5D Mark II to a bigger and better (or smaller and better, if you will) Canon camera, then you better get on the ball, because my next purchase will be a full frame mirrorless.

Since sensor size is doubled, a FF M for double the price seems fair.... i'de definitely go for that. Optional EVF would be cool too. IMO, M + 6D sensor for 1K, would sell like hotcakes. I've played with the EOS-M a few times now and it is fine when looking at it alone. But bring the other players into the picture and the EOS-M looks pretty sad. Canon clearly in the US has not made mirrorless a priority or even made a statement that they want to become players in the mirrorless market. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I've played with the A7r and M only, and the A7r has serious AF issues, couldnt find an easy way to select a point. Other than that, the dual controls and EVF is nice. The M only has one control, but using it is much more fluid than sony's system. I'de prefer the sony sensor inside of the M. I suspect there will eb an eos-M iii that will have another crop sensor with dual pixel af,l. The lenses might be a problem because canon is committed to the ef mount so heavily. An ef to ff mirrorless mount would be possible, but it removes some of the attractiveness of a small camera. And if you don't want a small camera, then the problems get much easier. But then why mirrorless?
