"Where are you?" would seem to be important info required to post a helpful answer.

AT&T is one of the most incompetent companies in the country and DSL is low grade Internet. It looks like Comcast is the cable company up there. They're not saints, but at least their product is fast.

Cable destroys DSL.
Look at your cable choice.
Google's gigabit is best, but rare.

If Comcast is available I would check them out. In Washington state Comcast is more expensive than what you are/were paying by about $15/month (includes their modem and wireless router combo) but I find them to be quite fast. And I've always found them to be helpful when problems arise.

Comcast is what I use and I have been happy with them and their CS when I did have an issue. Issue was resolved within minutes and it was a 6PM so I expected a longer wait time but issue was fixed and closed in 30 mins including hold times.

FIOs is faster where I am but also a lot more expensive. If it was the same price as Comcast, then I would go with FIOs for the faster speeds but it was not worth it for me to pick up FIOs.

I hope Google Fiber is changing this but ISPs in the US aren't really recognized for having "best service".

In fact, TWC and Comcast both got voted for having the lowest customer satisfaction rating:

Also, depending where you are located, if you have more than two options in terms of high-speed ISP in your area, consider yourself lucky.

Only have TWC and AT&T at my location and prices have actually gone up within the past couple of years.

Comcast has been rated bad but their service is pretty good for me. Both ISP near me were bad but I choose the least worse of the two. FIOs seems to have a lot of outages and Comcast seems to be more stable so I went with Comcast.

Good luck with your search. Here in the hinterland of Eastern Canada, we have 2 choices....Wireless Internet (ie, from a tower about 4 miles away, about the same speed as dial-up) or satellite internet (also about the same speed as dial-up). ;)
