Setting up a portable studio for myself. Already have a 580 and a 420 ex. I,m thinking of buying another 420 and use them as slaves, with umbrellas etc. Is this a good idea?

A 550EX will give you another stop or so of power, but the 420 will work fine. Professional wedding photographer, solution architect and general technical guy with multiple Amazon Web Services certifications.
