Protecting camera and lens from heat

I have a 70D and a couple lens and will be going on a week long camping trip with my sons scout troop.

There may be times that I must leave my gear in the tent. (I am not worried about theft) However, I am worried about the heat should the weather get in the upper 90's or 100's.

WIll leaving the camera in my camera bag be ok?

Any suggestions to keeping it a little cooler?

I regularly leave mine in the car in the summer sun. Of course, the bag is the floor out of direct sunlight, and I leave the windows open an inch or so for some ventilation. I am sure it is over 100 in the car at times. My 60D takes that treatment just fine.

If you're storing in a bag, 100+ temps shouldn't be an issue (and we're not getting into the desert dry 130+ temps)!

I shoot out in Florida's horrible 95F weather all day.

It's fine. Just don't leave it lens up, on the hood of your car or outside the tent just in the sunshine.

If it's in a bag, out of direct light, the 100F weather will not be a problem.

I realize I'm paranoid but I bought a large cooler that can hold any of my camera bags. When I know I'm going to be leaving my gear in the car in the hot summer sun for hours, I use it.

I don't use any cooling pack in it, obviously, but it keeps the temperature in the 70s or low 80s inside while the inside of my car, even with the windows cracked, will get well over 100 degrees F. Probably overkill but it makes me feel better.

An added benefit: it looks like I have some cold beverages in there and not thousands of dollars of camera gear.

In my experience heat isn't too much of a problem - but humidity is, especially for lenses. Having lived for years in the tropics I still have nightmares about lens mould.

hahaha, here 90 is a normal temp, every day. Those temps are nothing to worry about.

I don't think most people would think twice about shooting on a 90 degree day in direct sun, so why worry about the same temps in a shaded tent?

I just checked my 7D manual and Canon states that the operating range is from 32 to 104 degrees. (Which means the camera will work normally at 104 F). I'm sure the 70D is similar.

Out of interest.... I once got my 10D and thrifty fifty lens wet. (Partially submerged in water)..

I left it in the car on the rear shelf with all the windows rolled up for several hours on a hot sunny summer day. The car temperatures were 120 to 140 degrees. This dried out the camera and lens completely and they worked fine after that.

Monkey, I did think of that as I posted it.

I'm hoping people would be less inclined to break into a car for a few beers, but people are motivated by different things.

It's a long term experiment. I'll keep you informed.

I live in the Caribbean and don't worry about heat and my Gear , it's all stored in a Bag sitting in the Living Room .

Not to alarm OP, but just to pay attention.

I wouldn't be worried about high temp and racoons, but bugs.

I've never even thought about heat as a potential problem, and I have my gear sitting in a 120 degree car all day, every day, throughout the summer (except when I'm using it, of course). I have done so for years and years, and never had any trouble whatsoever with my gear.
