Hi. I'm considering selling my 5DM2 with all its lenses and accessories as an entire kit, for the purpose of moving to something physically smaller. This is a result of a bad back that's caused me to not be able to carry the camera and it heavy lenses, and I'm not enjoying photography the way I used to as a result. I'd likely build a smaller DSLR or 4/3 kit as a replacement.

What do you think about selling everything together? Do you think it's a long shot I'll get a buyer? I know I'll probably get more $ with individual sales, but the idea of unloading it all in one shot is attractive. If you have experience with a similar scenario I'd like to hear how it turned out.

All of the gear was purchased new in the past few years except the 70-200, which the previous owner had only a few month from new and never left his house with it. It's also only a few years old. Everything is in like new/excellent condition and meticulously cared for. No scratches or physical defects whatsoever. While I used the gear semi-professionally and worked some paying jobs with it, this is a "hobbyist's" kit in terms of wear and tear. What would you price this at as an entire kit? Feel free to itemize.

5DM2
35mm L f/1.4 (used very rarely)
135mm L f/2
24-105 L f/4
70-200mm L IS f/4
Tamron SP AF 1.4x Pro Teleconverter
580 EX II flash

Thanks

I think you'll have to wait quite a while for the right buyer if you want to sell everything as a kit.
If you price the individual pieces fairly, You'll probably sell them faster since they are all nice items.

When I need to price items to sell, I check out keh.com (external link), and go a little below their price. Best indicator of what the market is willing to spend. You can also do a search in the forums for recent sales or search ebay completed listings if you want. Price the items individually with shipping and PP cost included, then offer a discount for purchasing multiple items. You should have no problem moving the stuff- but if you post it as for sale for the whole lot, you'll get a bunch of emails and PMs asking you to sell items individually anyways.

I do think it's a long shot, though not unheard of.

The price will need to have a significant discount vs. the price that would normally charged for the sum of the parts.

This is NOT your average hobbyist kit. The body and lenses are all very high quality.

I added a note that it's a hobbyist's kit "in terms of wear and tear" which is what was intended. Thanks for pointing this out.

Is this what is listed on KEH or are you selling them now separately?

I would guess this is what Keh offered to buy his gear.

I know you haven't talked about doing this, but selling your gear to KEH would be crazy. You can easily make 30% more by selling it here on POTN. As for selling everything as a kit, it would be very difficult to do. Scratch that -- it would be extremely difficult to do.

Selling things individually on POTN and Craigslist is not that difficult, especially if you price each item very fair or a good $25-$50 below the going POTN rate.

Yes-I meant checking what prices KEH are selling them for, not going to pay you, and pricing them according to the selling price.

I assume you pulled those prices from the KEH website. Doesn't KEH offer some sort of return/warranty?

Those prices would be high for an individual to ask for this equipment. IMO.

The body quote definitely seems high.
