I'm looking at this ad on CL (and it's in my town). I wonder if I would make money if this kit was parted out.

The only things in there that appeal to me (at first glance) are the two L lenses the teleconverter and the tripod.

He wants 3500 for the lot.

What do you think?

Wow. I admit I haven't done the math, but it doesn't even look like that great of a deal to me. Obviously, I'm missing something. Time for me to go back a re-compute, I guess.

Seems just "OK" to me. So the main items are the two L lenses, but the 70-200 is just the 4.0...the only snag it is the 16-35mm L II (these items aren't approaching 3K in itself). I have the Tamron 28-75: it's still pretty good in optics, but is pretty long in the tooth compared to the current 24-70mm options (loud and slow AF compared to the current Tamron or Canon). A lot of the other accessories are just worth a few bucks. The 580EXII is powerful, but doesn't have the new RT technology. IMO, the 580 is quite good right now since it's not the new high end flash, but has has a similar capacitance for light intensity. So the main items seem to be the L lenses and tripod (by themselves aren't worth $3500). When you add all the items, it gets to be not a bad or great deal.

Canon 5D mk IV
EF 135mm 2.0L, EF 70-200mm 2.8L IS II, EF 24-70 2.8L II, EF 50mm 1.4, EF 100mm 2.8L Macro, EF 16-35mm 4L IS, Sigma 150-600mm C, 580EX, 600EX-RT, MeFoto Globetrotter tripod, grips, Black Rapid RS-7, CAMS plate and strap system, Lowepro Flipside 500 AW, and a few other things...

Canon 50D $400
5 lenses Canon 70-300 $300, Canon28-135 $200
Canon f/4L 70-200 $500, Canon f/2.8L 16-35 $1200
Tamron f/2.8 28-75 $300
Canon EF 1.4 extender $200
Canon 580exll flash with 2 flash diffuser $200
3 camera bags
Manfrotto 055CX3 tripod $400
Lens filters, spare batteries, remote switch, westcott 6-in-1 reflector

Hey Mike, maybe a little off in my pricing for some of the items and not including the small stuff. Seems like an OK price, I do not see much profit by parting it out and would not be worth the hassle for me especially if you cannot get rid of everything or if somehting is wrong with an item.

This guy's never going to sell this stuff all lumped up like that, mostly because several of those items are things that most people (and especially those looking for the few lenses in the kit they do want) won't want. And especially because he's asking way too much if he's trying to sell it all as a "package deal".

50D... not many people are looking for those these days
28-135mm... they're a dime a dozen and can be found just about anywhere for cheap, why buy in a kit?
70-300mm... same story as above
Tamron 28-75mm... again, same as above
Camera bags... who needs that many bags?
All the various extra stuff is stuff most photogs have already

Seems kinda bullheaded to me.

Based on the price, someone wants to get a 5dIII with all the stuff they dont need anymore, 16-35 to make it tempting.

Yeah, definitely seems likely, but like I said, I sincerely doubt he's going to sell that stuff if he seriously won't part it out or lower the price.
