Fledged on the 4th of July

We had a pair of chipping sparrows build a nest on a white spruce branch near our house in exactly, and I mean exactly, the same spot as did yellow-rumped warblers last year. It must, for some reason, be prime real estate. Anyway, one fledged on the 4th of July and presented me with a fairly well lit shot while it ambled around the branches on unsteady legs. Today I got the adult carrying food for the hungry.

Thanks, guys. If one can find birds this time of year, one can sometimes get some great shots because the young ones aren't smart enough to be afraid and the adults flit about at close range in protective mode.

That is really true, Bob; if one spends some time near a nest, it is amazing how many bugs are brought in.
