- Nissin i40 on transmitter as group A, 1st Di700 as group B bouncing ceiling, 2nd Di700 as group C hitting away wall, at - 1.5 EV.

- Tried with enouph intervalls between shots, half press then fire. Also tried with burst shots.

Even in burst shots (3fps), sometimes 1st shot is not ok and next is ok...
Must mention that in hss, success goes to about 50%.
...
Also, in remote manual or mixed mode (off-camera in manual mode and on-camera in ettl), not any problems at all, almost 100% success.
That actually sound like
1. There is some inconsistency in TTL, which is normal. If I shoot in studio or not moving a lot, use manual(both flash and camera) it's always give more consistence result regardless of whether you use remote trigger and high-end flash or not(with the exception of bad flash unit). If you are in (semi)auto, like Program/Aperture priority/Shutter priority, then both of your camera and flash both try to compensate on every shot. The result will be that every shot will differ from one to another. Even without the flash, shooting in A/S/P mode will very even just a few second apart.
2. Avoid burst and HSS. HSS use more power per the amount of flash output, doing so mean the flash may take longer to recycle. So is burst, especially in TTL, it can be unpredictable. Some flash will fire even if not fully charge while some won't. When you mix the brand this is what happen. Let's say you are firing a burst of 3 shots, each shot were using 1/2 power(and you don't know because you are in TTL). Then the first two shot may fires all of them properly, but the third one won't because some flash will fire even at 1/4 or 1/8 of the power(because that's all the power it can accumulate in the capacitor) while some won't because it didn't have enough.
