Mine seems to be about 10m. So yeah I'd consider 49m an improvement.

The best I can reliably achieve with either of mine is circa 24 metres in landscape orientation and 18 metres in portrait orientation under very similar conditions to Clive's (post above). 49 metres is indeed an improvement. Still not, unfortunately, anything like the 82 metres I got repeatedly with just YN-622C units both on camera and under a selection of flash units.
I been unable to repeat the tests to the same degree since upgrading to v1.06 firmware but indications are that there has been little or no difference for me under these specific test conditions.

For anyone interested, my test results at http://www.westonphoto.plus.com/tutorials/C-TX_ranges.pdf (external link) (182Kb pdf)
and notes on testing procedure at http://www.westonphoto.plus.com/tutorials/C-TX_NOTES.pdf (external link) (879Kb pdf)

The 'stated' range of the original was 100 metres (no mention of orientation). Elsewhere in this thread, the YN lead engineer says that he sent members of the test team to the local park and the units tested within specification. A puzzle!

EDIT: Firmly sitting on my hands before ordering another TX unit. I want to be SURE that the new PCB is in place and inevitably there is going to be some lead time before this is assured.

The original C-TX tested reliably at a maximum of just over 20M/66ft. So the range of the unit just received at 49M in the same situation is twice as good as the earlier unit, but not yet "as good as the 622C".

I have just purchased a YN622C-TX.
Tried using it with a YN622C + 550EX (I) in the compatible EX mode. Had flash set to ETTL, the YN622C-TX set to M and varied the power on the TX from 1/128 to 1/1 but the light output appears to be identical according to my flash meter at F11. Although when set at 1/1 the pilot on the flash goes out and slowly builds whereas at 1/128 the pilot stays red. With this pilot behaviour i was expecting to see a huge variation in metered output.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Were you using the test function on the TX or did you press the camera's shutter button? With the test button, my 380EX meters the same regardless of the TX's manual setting. Firing the camera with the shutter button, the 380EX does follow the TX setting.

This is what I would expect. Must test it with my 550EXs.

Under E-TTL, the camera instructs the flash to fire a test shot, which the camera reads. It then issues a power setting - for that shot - and then the Fire!.
 The Test button simply issues a Fire! command at the last power level set.
 The compatibility mode allows the C-TX to convert the camera's Manual level to an ETTL code to set the level. The Flash must be in ETTL mode to handle the ETTL code.

Thanks.
I have tried the C-TX on a 40D and 5DII, with two different 550EX I guns.

Camera in manual.

C-TX GroupA on M set to 1/2 and 1/128 power.
Flash set to ETTL

Its currently giving a flash reading of F22 on every shot, and i am using the camera's shutter release.

Confused!

julzechs,
you can add a picture of the TX PCB?

Unfortunately I already assembled my unit back. You still can find the a picture by googling it. There's someone who already took a picture of it.

If the flash is set (on-flash) to E-TTL mode, the flash output is not displayed. Are you using a separate light meter? If you are reading the F22 from the flash ;s LCD, then it is not in E-TTL mode.

Check that the C-TX's C.Fn 05 = On.

Check that the Wireless switch = Off, not slave or master.

Check the steps in TOYUG 4.10, p.45 (link is in my signature).

Oh, and Salinas272, you should get a confirming wink of the 622C's group flash, and the status light turning off for a moment, each time you change the C-TX's group power level.

Thanks for your time.

I am using a separate light meter. But when i half press the shutter, the flash (currently showing "ETTL Zoom 50mm") indicates the distance range with the bottom lcd lines, and also displays the F stop from the camera e.g. "F - 16" - see image below
The only other modes using Mode button on flash are M or Multi, so its def in ETTL.

The channel and group do flash on the 622C as expected when shutter half pressed.

Wireless switch on flash is set to off. The 622C does wink when power level changed on C-TX

On the C-TX the CFn 5 is set to ON
Group A is set to Manual.

The whole thing looks straight forward, but measured flash output remains the same whatever power setting i put in group A on the C-TX

Is there anything that should be set in the camera itself under Flash Function Settings?

Anyone successfully see a 550EX (version1) with 622C and C-TX?

Extremely frustrating.

Although the 550EX is in E-TTL mode, it is not being driven fully in that mode: the display may be based on past not current data.

Before my last post, I tested your scenario with my 50D and a 550EX. It worked exactly as expected.

While determining what is happening, turn group B to Off. Just one group at a time. And of course just one flash. (Presumably, you have already used CLEAR on the C-TX to start from default settings.)

AFAIK, as long as the settings on page 45 of TOYUG are in force, output will be controlled on the 550EX.

I know from personal annoying experience how easy it is to not correctly set required values; I am struggling to provide an explanation for what you see!
