Is there anything I can do about the flat looking sky in this image?

That depends on your editing software. Have you tried adjusting the Hue, Saturation and Luminance. Try adjusting the blue Sat and Lum.

I have Lightroom 4.5 and PSE 11. I'll give that a shot.

OK, now I feel completely stupid. How do you save your work in Lightroom?

Go to "File > Export" then set the destination, filetype and other variables.

Thanks. It appears there isn't a lot of blue to work with. but I did get some improvement, I think.

You don't save in Lightroom. every change is always there unless you click on reset.
There's lots of tutorial videos produced by Adobe that I recommend you watch. They helped me tremendously.

I use lightroom and love it. The problem is that you can easily overdo it and lose qualities to the photo or add artifacts. A prime example is in tweaking values too high to achieve more blue or depth to your shot. You have added a distracting artifact around the beak of your subject.

Before:

HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

After:

HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

Canon 600D, Canon 350D - Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L, Canon 40mm f/2.8 STM Pancake, Canon 100mm f/2.8 USM - Kit lenses not worth mentioning.

Thanks Ryan, I noticed that. The only thing that seemed to work was lowering the setting (I believe it was saturation for blue) back down to reduce it. I am still tweaking with it. I really want to thank everyone, I was getting frustrated with lightroom and it's lack of recognizable controls. They do make sense once you start to learn them.

Not much. But then it's too out of focus to bother trying IMO.

I think if it missed focus it would have picked up on some part of the tree. I'd guess motion blur (unless this is a really heavy crop).

It looks like a zoo shot...why not reshoot and do it properly? ;)

The color helps, but I hate that white line along the top of the beak.
