Not quite a 10' pole but...

my Manfrotto monopod was an effective deterrent for a local varmint. Cracked the upper clamp because I had the sleeves fully extended when I whacked the porcupine. Better the monopod than the dog though!

Never seen one of those in person, that's scary! I can't imagine having to pluck those out of my leg!

I'd rather pluck them out of my leg than other places...

Actually I has something similar happen while hiking. Walking down a heavy brush path I rounded a corner and came up on a badger. I looked at him, he at me and he scurried into the bush. Freaked me out a bit. Those guys can be nasty mean and are fast.
