Isn't that water usually recycled, non-potable water?

When the fountain is running, the water that goes down the drains must be pumped back up. I don't know whether it starts out nonpotable. There's no sign advising against drinking it. Dogs and small children might drink some, but I haven't seen that.

[BRicardo, another beautiful water image. I never get tired of your Nelson Haven waterscapes.

Thank you so much, Stina.

Tim...great idea and a nice image! I should be out there now...it's raining steadily, but I'm not in the mood to get wet. Will be taking the dogs out later so will no doubt find some water!

That's beautiful, Tim! Great idea.

This is our water system at the first set of corrals.
There's the solar panel that powers the pump in the well, that fills the holding tanks and that fills the water troughs.

A closer look at the water trough.

Ricardo - Thanks! I was lucky to catch the angles just right. A few minutes later I was not able to duplicate that effect.

Stina - I'm surprised that a small solar panel like that can run a well pump. I need to look into solar powered pumps. I want to put a 1500 gallon holding tank uphill about 30 feet in elevation. It would then serve as an emergency water source for fire fighting and when the power goes out.

Stina, that's interesting. Is the sun enough to run the pump in winter and on foggy days? (Maybe that's why your tank is so big. Storing water is easier than storing current.) We have one of the few remaining urban wells around here. No solar panel, though.

That well doesn't put out a ton of water. It's okay when the cattle is spread out, but when it's loaded with cattle we have to fill the holding tanks with the water from the house field. The solar panel works great though. The well for the house puts out a ton of water and feeds a couple water troughs as well as our house. It has a big holding tank but we have a pump for that one that's electric.

Tim, that is a very cool image. A great idea indeed!

Stina, interesting shots and info. For me that is a different world altogether. Fascinating.

And I have something to contribute now. I woke up last night to a heavy thunder storm. It was pitch black but there was so much lightning overhead that individual bolts were hardly visible. Plus thundering winds and tons of rain. So I thought I would take some shots. I didn't dare open the windows as the lightning was literally overhead, but shooting through double glass does interesting things...

And I can't help it but I'm a sucker for rain against a window. Very cliché, I know. :)

Interesting shots everyone.

Hope to bring back a few photos tomorrow from our kayaking trip on the John's River.

I can believe that, what with all the canals here. :)

On a serious note though, the storm that woke me up last night was part of a night of heavy weather that swept across the country, with thunder storms and torrential rains. A lot of houses across the country were flooded and property was damaged. There was a whirlwind in a village somewhere that did a lot of damage (the local library was destroyed e.g.) and here in Amsterdam a man died when a tree that was struck by lightning fell on him.

Those are nice, Klystron. I especially like the second picture. Just lovely. I wish I could send some of the rains we had here last night to those boats!
