Hello all,

Could someone suggest a compact monopod for use with a Sony A77 DSLT [as an example of weight for use]?

I would love to say price is no object, but I'd like to keep it under $100 and I'm indifferent if its Aluminum or Carbon fiber. 15 inches or smaller un-extended. Extended, and maybe I'm asking for too much here but...60+ inches [gheeze this could start to sound pornographic easily!! LOL].

Thank you all for your time and responses, always appreciated!

Cheers!

Brian

I saw something I was not familiar with, called a z??????? plate. It is basically a 6" x 6" x 1/4" thick Anodized Aluminum plate with a place to mount a ball head, and a pocket wizard while allowing easy access to change batteries on the PW. It is aimed at Sports Photographers to set sturdily on the floor or in rafters for remote shooting at the same time the main camera is being used. Originally it was about $50, now about $95 since it is being sold by a major New York Retailer (better distribution/awareness I'm sure). It has 4 holes in the corner for feet? And a rubber padding on bottom.

I found I can buy an Anodized piece of Aluminum for about $30-50 depending on Alloy from www.McMaster.com (external link). I may make my own version, as I do not use PW. The original product is quite nice, light, simple and fits in the bag pretty easy. You can place tape on the floor around it to ensure the aim is maintained. I think I would trust this plate idea much more than a mini tripod.

Does this take the place of what the OP wanted, a monopod?
