Too warm? Too Saturated?

Brutal critique welcome!

I am new to all of this ..but I come on here to learn from other people's critique...so prob dont really listen to me :).

I think I would crop in a little and I do feel it is maybe to over-processed, I know someone told me before not to make them dead center....but again maybe just ignore my comments as I am new. I wanted to make my first critique to see if I am "off" or others agree (learning experience for me). :)

must say though what a cute baby :)

Thanks for the input! I do agree it's a touch too saturated. And I also agree the crop could be tighter on the left, with less headroom. I have been trying to leave things a bit looser to allow print options, as I don't do the prints for people.

I think it looks great!
the highlights in the background may be a touch distracting...
but a great capture... great pose and expression!

Nice photo.
But in ACR I would pull the highlights and blacks sliders to the left and also move to the left the yellow saturation and yellow luminance sliders, then crop a little tighter.

Very nice. A keeper for sure.

You might consider doing a crop and bringing background exposure down a bit.

Thanks for all the input so far! I haven't revisited the above image yet, but here's one more form the set. I struggled a bit removing all the red/magenta color cast from the skin, it may be a bit washed out. I go back and forth on that.

Above is nice but looks over exposed and over saturated (greens and yellows esp.)....I would also crop to 5x7 and eliminate the top.

I deliver all of my images as 4x6's. (2:3)

I do agree on the exposure, I dialed it back about -.10 and prefer the result. As far as the saturation, I'm thinking my non-calibrated monitor is the culprit here. Or my eye just leans that way. :)

Have you considered getting a PhotoVision calibration target to help you with your exposure and white balance? You take some nice images but I think you sometimes struggle with exposure and getting the colors correct. This would help eliminate both problems.

PhotoVision offers targets of various sizes, but this size works fine for me: http://www.adorama.com/PVOS14.html (external link)
It comes with an hour long tutorial DVD to explain it's usage.

Canon 7D, 5D, 35L, 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.8, 135L, 200L, 10-22, 17-55, 70-300, 100-400L, 500D, 580EX(2).
Sigma 150 macro, 1.4X, 2X, Quantaray 2X, Kenko closeup tubes, Yongnuo YN685(3), Yongnuo YN-622C-TX. Lots of studio stuff.

Thanks! Your right. I always seem to end up with a "filter effect" look because I can never settle on a "correct" white balance. I am often guilty of shooting in AWB mode, though this session was shot in "shade" mode.

Thanks again for the tip and link, I need to spend a bit more time worrying about getting this dialed in before I click away, glad you like some images!

I agree with what others have mentioned. Only other thing I noticed is the typical infant/baby mottled skin on the second image you posted. A bit of skin smoothing/softening would take care of that easily. Adorable little girl.

The skin tone, of her face in particular, looks quite desaturated. I'd aim for a healthy glow :-)
