I have a 50D and a 5d MK II now, and I came across what I think is a good deal on a 60D but don't know if it is a significant upgrade from the 50D as a second body. I think my out of pocket would be under $200 after selling the 50D. Is it worth it for something I would only use occasionally?

IMO no, the boost in IQ is marginal and you are actually downgrading the build quality and losing AF adjust (if you ever need it).

The main reason to get a 60D would be if you really want to tilt screen or use a lot of video and need a second video camera.

Not worth it.

Not for $200 out of pocket, at all.

Very best,

I assume your 5 D M2 is your primary camera and APS "WHATEVER" is
just secondary. APS Secondary is always that no matter model because
it is APS.

You really hate crops don't you?

I have had both. The 50d is more durable, and more fps is that matters. The 60d will be better in low light, and of course you have video, if you need/want it. I know last year I sold my mint 50d, and bought a 60d, same mint condition, price was a wash. I shoot mostly sports, and my 50d did a better job for me, if you are shooting more stills, I might pay $50, definitely not $200.......

Ok thanks everyone, I kind of felt it wasn't worth it but thought I would check.

Easily the most ignorant post of 2014, and I've seen most of them.

I own a 50D personally and love it. Tried the 60D and was unimpressed. Lesser build quality and lacking features that are very useful like MFA for example. Personally the price difference would not be worth it and in a lot of respects would be a downgrade

The camera is just a tool - it is not responsible for the picture.

I like my 50D and would not trade it for a 60D. Might consider a 70D but I would rather wait for the new 7D (if it ever shows up). Whatever happens with newer bodies, my 50D will not be retired to "back-up duty". It will keep working. It's just a good camera.

yeah, who needs a better ISO performance model, more megapixels and video, etc. in a smaller and lighter body - that's just crazy

What kind of thinking is this? For someone who craves the crop factor for his shooting a crop will be primary. I have a 6D and 7D, none is primary or secondary. They are tools with a different use each. That is totally absurd.
