This looks like more Sci Fi being made reality, and could make photoshop a lot more interesting:

If I'm not mistake Apple are trying to get patents registered for exactly that kind of multipoint touchscreen display. They pretty much missed the boat on tablet PCs (ruggedized PCs, PDAs, etc) and I guess offering a multipoint one would be their way of trying to get in the tablet game.

The touch screen ipod has been getting thrown about as an idea for a few weeks now that I'm aware of [probably longer].

The vidoe there is intersting - although in fairness i can do stuff like that with my laptops touchpad, as the hardware is'nt that complex, it's the practical side that is the problem - greasy fingermarks, spilled coffee, etc...

Also - anyone who has used a table flat will confirm that stnading over a display like that really does your neck and back in for a while...

Interesting tho, I can see a utilisation for DJs, CAD artists, etc, where it wouldnt be the primary display, but as a secondary interface....

I've got a Panasonic toughbook with a wireless touchscreen. I've got to say that is one of the biggest problems. The screen is very daylight readable, but when you are spending the day working with it it gets mucky fast. Of course its easy to clean, but as you said, a touchpad works great and avoids that issue.
