In Photoshop I created a custom brush of my watermark, and now I can place it anywhere, in any size, and in any color, on any image. On a layer, or not.
The same could be done in Photoshop Elements.

This is what I ended up doing as well. I export my images then just batch open them in photoshop and then place each logo where I want on each image. Click save and move onto the next. It was the fastest and easiest way I could figure out.

After export is complete from LR I can watermark around 100 images in less than 10min.

Does the OP even have Photoshop? He seems to want to do this in LR.

To my understanding, there's not a fast and easy way in Lightroom.

After struggling with a few different variations over the past year or two, I think I've finally settled on putting mine in the lower-right corner on just about every image. Usually in 80%-opacity white, but a black version if the image calls for it.

Since you know so much about Lightroom's architecture why not learn Lua (external link) and write a better watermarking plug-in?

Thanks for your contributions to this thread. I'm not sure what it was that provoked you, but you've managed to be condescending, rude, and incorrect in just a few short posts.

To everyone else who offered legitimate responses, thanks. I suppose there is no other way to do this from within Lightroom. Hopefully some future version will include the option.

You're welcome; glad I could help.

Perhaps you should go back and examine your own behavior in this very thread. DunnoWhen asked you twice if you had Photoshop presumably because he/she wanted to suggest an optimal solution. Instead of simply responding yes or no, you snidely quoted and highlighted a phrase stating that you're using Lightroom 5.5 as if DunnoWhen or anyone else reading was unware you were talking about Lightroom. And you want to lecture about condescension and rudeness?

I'm quite within bounds to ask if you know so much and the people responding are so stupid to notice you were using Lightoom why are you even asking for help? Its laughable that you'd think I was "incorrect"; having been involved with Lightroom even before initial release I'm quite confident in my knowledge of how the application works.

To wrap this up I will state my past experience with this issue. When I first started trying to mess with watermarking/photo borders I asked the same question: "is there an easy way in LR so that I don't have to use both LR and PS." The simple answer that I found out is as follows. You will save a lot of time and hassle by editing your photos to your liking in LR and then opening in PS for a quick action to place the desired watermark. Seems tedious, but it's a lot simpler than using some 3rd party plug-in for LR hoping that it'll do exactly what you want it to do. Cheers!

Sadly I don't think it is possible to do what the OP wants. I certainly couldn't find a way. Instead, rather than add another piece of software to my workflow, I settled for creating a selection of watermarks in different positions and saving them as presets. I have a preset for watermark left bottom, right bottom, left/right middle and left right top. I just select which watermark I want when I export.

Thanks Dan, I've resorted to that method previously and although it doesn't solve the issue of limited placement across the image, I think it is still the best option.

It is certainly not perfect but you can cover quite a lot of different positions. I made six watermark image files in PSE for top left, middle left bottom left and the same for right hand side. The top left image can be moved down (and in/out) some way, the middle one can be moved up and down/in and out and the bottom left can be moved up and in/out. That covered most of the left of the image. Ditto for the right hand side.

Is there a way to make the custom brush in color? Exactly as posted?
Mine always shows as grey scale and black. Im learning photoshop.
Thanks in advance.
