I don't see the real purpose of these threads specially when you can see that 90% of these photographs are heavily post processed and you cannot see anymore if they come from this or this camera.
These thread can be interesting ONLY if the photograph are straight out of the camera or/and processed by the camera itself with special option or personal set up to see how the camera do it and the result given by a kind of camera, but actually it's too much Post processed in LR/Photoshop to see something about the camera itself ...

Yup, that would be fair comment for many pix

I guess I would prefer to see what can be done in camera rather than the skills using LR, PS etc

Better than new "Should I buy XX camera or XX camera" threads that get repeated on weekly basis. At least there are 'photo dump' threads where people can look at samples.

What's with all these ridiculous threads clogging up this forum? There are 14 of them in this forum on the first page! God forbid someone asks a question about a camera it's all about liking old cameras here eh? And the camera you use isn't going to make your photos great so telling people to post their photos from only one camera is a bit egotistical.

This use to be a good forum for EOS camera discussion but I tend to now read other forums on this site instead.

Canon hasnt released squat so really what do we have to talk about.

Heya,

I agree there are lots of them, but let's not exaggerate that not all 14 or however many there are, are constantly being topped at the beginning of this forum. There are right now quite a few topped, but usually only 2 or 3 at any given time, just last week, and they're active threads. Who cares what they are, they're active.

Yes, I agree a sub-forum for examples from a particular camera/sensor line is a nice thing to have. I like the threads because I like seeing and comparing what someone with skill can do with a lesser camera/sensor compared to a much more expensive one, it gives you a lot more gauge when it comes to figuring out where value is for someone shopping for a camera. A sub-forum would be a nice way to keep it clean. Like the lens sample archives. Lord knows there are tons of cameras that are still active.

Very best,

I personally like the threads dedicated to specific cameras, I first came on here to check up on a camera I was interested in and appreciated not having to wade through photographs taken on another camera. I don't care how much processing goes on because it shows what you can do with that camera, no matter what you have to do to get the end result.

It's easy enough to avoid threads which you're not interested in, even if it means clicking onto a different page.

Think of it this way, if you were new to this forum and you went in this forum, you might think it is only for posting photos taken by certain cameras or reminiscing about older cameras.

That's a stretch of an assumption. The sub-forums are pretty darn clear.

Funny, I really don't care.

In my 30+ years of Internet surfing, I've learned to ignore the things I'm not interested in.

Like the Lens Forum (not interested)!!!

Maybe its just me .....

I guess age gives you the ability to tune out the things that perturb you or that have no interest for you.

But to each their own ..

Only if I ignore the 90% of the other threads that proves it to be wrong.

I'm with Walt; I do think these threads do clutter the top of the Camera section, but advancing years mean you not only get better at speed reading, but also speed editing ~ my eye just skims past 'em.

I'm wondering if the problem lies with Canon (and others) are releasing cameras faster than most can keep up with. I'm old enough to remember when camera manufacturers had very long model runs. Take the Nikon F for example

+ 1, Jurgen.
Marketing dictates small incremental improvements at regular intervals.

Like Jurgen, I remember the stir and upheaval with the introduction of the Olympus OM series; when Pentax went from M42 to K, then to the M form factor, and the introduction of the Nikon FM. New models were NEWS in those days.

These days . . . bleh; now, I'm lucky if I buy into every second model iteration.

The biggest problem for me is that important questions about the cameras themselves get lost in those threads too. I guess it's a natural thing but it would be nice to have the pics in a separate section and Q&As on specific models in threads in this forum.

But if it has 'Official' in front of it, then it should be able to stay! ;-)a
