The same arguments were made about the lenses, and we finally ended up with a lens archive for examples by lens. It is completely logical and reasonable to assume we should either have a camera archive, or put the camera samples threads into the lens archive and rename that board.

It is logical to think "I would like to see samples from body X or lens Y", and "I see a board called Gallery Samples from Lenses and Bodies, I bet I can find what I want there".

In the new AMASS version of POTN, there will be no need for all these threads, each image posted will get matched to both a camera body and lens, if you make sure the info is attached to those images. Then if you want to see samples from a body, just go to the equipment list and see every image from every poster that ever was attached to that camera. Same by lens... Very COOL!

Why do we have pointless threads that have nothing to do with an actual camera clogging up the first page?

There is a little button that you can click to go to a page 2 or 3 if you need to. nobody says anyone is limited to only viewing the first page of threads.

Not the point here. The point here is that we have already established a board for lens archives because of the very same issue that occurred in the lens board. We haven't done it for the camera board yet. However it has gotten very crazy recently, because for example, we have:

- 7D pictures thread
- T2i pictures thread
- T3i pictures thread
- 18mpx crop cameras thread
etc.

There is no control over this, and as we know the cameras all share the same basic sensor design, yet we have individual gallery threads per each of the 18mpx bodies, then one or two "combined" threads too.

If it made sense to have a separate board for lens gallery threads, then it is quite logical to do the same for camera gallery threads. I don't even know why it would be argued any other way. The precedent has already been set. :)

My guess is that there isn't a mod that is willing to manage that board, like there was originally with the lens one.

However again, if this has come up in the past, and the mods have issued the answer as to why there is no change, then there is no reason to rehash the topic either.

The only issue is that the body threads are not intended to just be gallery threads. Granted, the lens sample archives are often misused for discussion/troubleshooting/technique as well, so there's no purity there.

The other side of it is that there aren't nearly as many active bodies as there are lenses. The separate lens archive makes a ton of sense because of the sheer number of lenses in there. I'd rather just continue to see what body-specific conversations might be going on all in the same forum.

It's simpler for me to mousewheel over the potential eight or nine active body threads than it would be to mousewheel over the EOS Cameras forum, then click on a Body Sample forum and mousewheel through that.

So what about these threads? If the argument is that these threads also discuss nuances of a certain body, why have these?

T2i/T3i/T4i/T5i/SL1/60D/7D...Sensor United We Post!
1Ds/1Dx/5D/6D Full Frame Sensor Unite!
Rebel users allied! Show us your best Non L lens pics.

Pictures are duplicated in these along with their separate threads. Discussions are also dupped a bit. Where does a person go to discuss the T3i now? The thread above, or the dedicated T3i thread? Perhaps the non L pic thread for rebel owners? This just invites duplicity.

This is the lack of governance and rules I mentioned.

I was here when the lens ones started to take over, and the decision was made. Mike (In2Photos) agreed to manage that, but isn't all that active much these days. I think it is difficult to find somebody that would own this like Mike initially did. Sure there are much less than 103 body threads here (4 times as many as the body threads), no doubt, but I don't agree with things like the 3 threads above. Somebody didn't like having to look through each body thread, and decided they wanted a particular sensor format thread. How about just a "19Pt AF Camera Body Owners Unite" thread? Perhaps "Wifi Camera Only Owners" thread? There should be some rules laid out at a minimum.

I think the other problem others are seeing is that there are 8 sticky threads right up front, and then about 5-15 of these gallery/discussion threads are active in a 24 hour period. Finally add the misdirected topics related to "Is this a good site for cameras", "Is this a good price", and topics belonging in other forums, and your first page is basically shot.

Right now there are 15 out of 27 gallery/discussion threads, along with the 8 sticky threads, on the first page. Out of 30 possible slots in my view, 23 are these. Sure a scrollwheel helps scroll up and down, but it doesn't necessarily help digging out the 7 remaining recent topics on the first page. :)

Heck, are there even 27 active Canon DSLRs out there to show pics on and discuss? That is how many show up in recent history. The 20D/30D are combined, the 1DII/1DIIn are combined, so that eliminates the list a bit. Just seems to be a bit cluttered is all.

Can we have a section where people go to make complaint posts so I don't have to see them clogging up the main thread?

De ja vu all over again, same arguments and retorts were made back in 2006 when the lens posts were out of control. ;)

Once the new announcements for 3 new bodies comes out in Sept, we will have 5 new Unite/Discuss threads to add to the list.

On a serious note, it won't get better, I wish I knew how many lens threads there were back in 2006. We might be hitting the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back for lenses then with bodies now.

It already exists, it's the "Forum Talk".

I guess it does stink that so many photos are being shared in this Equipment Talk Section (I'm certainly guilty). That would limit threads like the sensors unite one to just discussions on processing and sharpness, probably.

A photo gallery for lenses and bodies makes sense. Having body specific discussion threads in the talk section makes sense. I think the last time we had this talk, the final answer was basically no change because there would be no way to control what went into each thread, and we would have traded one kind of confusion and duplicity for another, so why change anything, plus AMASS will eventually fix this issue. ;)

I have asked that this be moved, it really does belong in the forum talk section as was pointed out.

What's the staus on AMASS? I couldn't find much. Any development help needed? I might be able to pitch in.

Pekka is quite capable with the programming, and wanted to do it himself due to his work schedule and not having to babysit/peer review others' code, I believe. Not to speak directly for him, but others offered too, and he was happy to do the work himself.

Based on what I had seen, there was at least 2 rounds of beta testing that were completed, and the next round, whenever it fits Pekka's schedule, and when he has the server resources, will involve more testers to bang on it. It was pretty amazing work in round 2, something unlike anything else out there related to forums/boards. There was alot of thought and sweat and blood that has gone into it. :)
