I used to use Lightroom (bought 4 at release which was a disaster until 4.4... and unfortunately paid for the 5.4 upgrade which was again bad and improved a bit with 5.5....), Adobe's software quality is bad... So I now bought Capture One Pro 7.2.3.

Initial impressions:
- better colours
- shaper RAW renders
- better distortion correction tool (you can input the angles yourself in a very friendly way or let the software do it)
- GPU acceleration (which I conclude Adobe is either too lazy or stupid to implement based on the comment I read on the topic... - they claim it has no benefit when image processing is something GPUs are great at...)
- Not tested yet, but Capture One Pro can do CMYK and RGB softproofing according to the specsheet, again lazy Adobe only gives you RGB in Lightroom because they want you to cough up for Photoshop...
- preview rendering makes sense in Capture One Pro: It will render previes for ALL images in the current view pane. (so go an have some coffee)
Whoever designed Lightroom must have thought misery is the best option... it renders what you see only, scroll a bit and you get to enjoy constant laggyness and then suddenly it renders some extras... its a mess...

Capture One Pro seems to be coming along quite nicely and quickly:

Unless I am mistaken, the sessions will lead to cache folders in the photo folders while the database uses a central location that you chose and no individual cache folders.
(I would need to check when I am home if I remember...)
